the product

Daisy Jones & The Six is a fictional 1970s rock band created by Taylor Jenkins Reid in the novel sharing the same title. The website offers of variety of tour and band merchandise. The site’s goal is to offer fans customization options to personalize items featuring the band’s iconography.

The PROBLEM

Music fans need a seamless merchandise customization flow in order to be able to purchase band merchandise that reflects an aesthetic they enjoy.

The Goal

Design a website that allows users to seamlessly browse and customize Daisy Jones & The Six merchandise.

understanding the user

I formulated questionnaires to understand the users i am designing for. A primary user group identified through research was young adults. Research revealed that users wanted more CUSTOMIZATION options for the band merchandise they purchase. Other user problems included being overwhelmed by extensive CUSTOMIZATION options.

 Pain Points

  • Lack of Size Inclusivity — band merchandise is not available in a wide range of sizes

  • Customization Options are Overwhelming — too many options overwhelm users when customizing an item

problem statement

Joy is a music enthusiast who needs a seamless merchandise customization flow because they want to be able to purchase band merchandise that reflects an aesthetic they enjoy.

design process

Site Map

Users expressed being overwhelmed by excess options when it comes to customization. The sitemap was created by making strategic information architecture decisions, such as implementing a hierarchical structure to organize content to make navigation simple and easy for users.

Wireframes

After sketching paper wireframes, I refined the wireframes in a digital space. I reiterated clear navigation and the use of buttons to ease navigation for users.

Screen Size Variations

usability study findings

  • Return to Homepage — once purchase was completed, it was not clear to all users how to return to the homepage

  • Billing Address Same as Shipping — users want the option to check a box for the billing address to be the same as the shipping address they have already entered

final design

  • Used visual hierarchy with headings in different text sizes

  • Used landmarks to help users with assistive technologies navigate the site

  • Designed the site without extreme colour contrasts to ease strain on users’ vision

Takeways

Impact:
